As details about the occurrences at the Boston Marathon have been revealed, people from across the nation are looking for ways to help. In response to that, along with thousands of other aid organizations, FirstGiving is diligently working to find ways to support recovery and relief efforts.
This year marked the 117th Anniversary of the world’s oldest annual marathon and, in addition to serving as the fundraising platform for hundreds of nonprofits and race participants, FirstGiving had a physical presence at this year’s marathon and witnessed first-hand the tragic events that unfolded.
Nina Vellayan, CEO & President of FirstGiving, said in an official statement, "We are shocked, saddened and our hearts go out to the families affected by this senseless act. We’re here to help and will do all we can to assist those involved.
While action on the ground is being spearheaded by local authorities, we want to do our part in providing resources to those that most need them by supporting the various nonprofit organizations who are lending a helping hand. Likewise, we want to make it easy for you to donate directly to race participants that are raising funds for charitable causes through their participation in the marathon.
