#GivingTuesday was launched in 2012 and was designed to build a sense of community in rallying around a day that would serve as a charitable alternative to the heavy-hitting holiday shopping days i.e. Black Friday and Cyber Monday. Since its inception, the phenomenon has grown exponentially and has moved beyond the borders of the U.S. to become a global trend.
