The most socially responsible companies of 2015: Part Two

In part one of our two-part series, we began listing corporations with the best reputation for corporate social responsibility (CSR) according to the Reputation Institute!

Today we’re digging into the top five companies. These corporations are the crème de la crème of CSR, not only because they’re good at what they do, but also because they’re good at doing good!

#5 Sanofi

Sanofi is the top rated pharma company in CSR. They’ve acquired that ranking by making vaccines more accessible for everyone through ongoing partnerships with the World Health Organization, UNICEF, and the Red Cross. Additionally, they are part of the Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunization, which is focused on saving children’s lives through the widespread distribution of vaccines.

Sanofi’s Key to CSR Success: Sincerity and their focus on real societal impact.

This fuel company has a philanthropic goal at the heart and soul of what they do. Schneider partners with organizations like Habitat for Humanity and the United Way to help fight poverty, train disadvantaged youth in India, and create sustainable development awareness in developing countries.

Schneider’s Key to CSR Success: Alignment and engagement. Their CSR activities are part of their organizational DNA and their philanthropic arm is run by employee delegates in 75 different countries.

#3 BMW

It’s nice to see a car company on a CSR list for all the right reasons! The BMW Group is a self-proclaimed leader in intercultural communication and have set a goal of benefiting a total of one million people by 2020. They hope to accomplish this goal through programs like The Schools Environmental Education Development Project to raise youth awareness of environmental and social issues, and their Warm Heart Fund, designed to allow the corporation and its employees to give back to the communities in which they live. They also have a long term goal of becoming CO2 emissions free over time through Research and Development.

BMW’s Key to CSR Success: Alignment. Their CSR strategy is perfectly aligned with their business model.

#2 Levi Strauss & Co.

Levi focuses its CSR efforts on human rights and environmental issues, reducing their environmental footprint and serving the populations most affected by their business. They stand out with signature campaigns like their Worker Well-being Initiative aimed at improving the lives of their apparel workers. Levi’s Water<Less™ manufacturing techniques have saved over 1 billion liters of water and will hopefully account for 80% of their product manufacturing by 2020. The company is making it their mission to create positive impact through social innovation.

Levi’s Key to CSR Success: Leadership. They lead by example!

The #1 LEGO Group

With partners like UNICEF and the World Wildlife Fund, LEGO is doing its part to make a global difference in children’s lives and combat climate change. One example of how they are making an impact is their use of wind power from a German wind farm that creates enough energy to cover the yearly electricity demand of nearly 100,000 households. This is all part of Lego’s ongoing effort to run off 100% renewable energy by 2020. With long term responsibility goals such as these, they’re sure to make 2016’s list as well!
