Crowdsourcing and Groupsourcing: Utilizing Volunteers on Social Media

Last June, Second Harvest harnessed the power of social media to promote their marquee fundraising event, Toronto Taste. Through an interesting combination of crowdsourcing, contests and a dedicated group of volunteers, Second Harvest was able to promote their event to an entirely new audience, drive ticket sales, offer sponsor recognition and create a high level of awareness of the event – all with limited active participation by the small communications team.
Shane will discuss some of the strategies employed and share ideas on how Second Harvest created a very effective Social Media campaign with limited human resources at their disposal.
