At the start of a brand new year, it’s a perfect time to brainstorm new and fun ways to fundraise. There are lots of options, and a great place to start is to consider a walk-a-thon or marathon! A recent study by Software Advice, a company that hosts online reviews, revealed that runs and walks are the most cost-effective type of fundraising event. Without much upfront cost, and with your supporters fundraising on your behalf, you will be well-positioned for success.
When asked how they measured their success, over 80% of the nonprofits Software Advice surveyed said the cost per dollar raised (CPDR) was the most important metric to them. CPDR is the total cost of the event divided by the total amount raised, and it’s the best measure of an event’s success. Of the eight types of special events analyzed, Software Advice found a-thon events (walk-a-thons, bike-a-thons, bowl-a-thons, marathons, etc.) to have the highest return on investment by far!
Your supporters are your champions
Walks and runs can help you to grow your donor base and inspire your community to be champions for your cause. Leading up to your walk or run, your supporters will be reaching out to friends, family, and colleagues to tell them about the importance of your cause. As they ask for donations and pledges, they are also inviting others to learn about your organization and the good work that you do. Software Advice found new supporters who are educated on the impact of their donation are more likely to become long-term donors.
Make it easy online
Software Advice’s research also found that using online software to manage your walk or run will lead to a successful event in more ways than one. For starters, you can help your supporters fundraise more easily. Your supporters can set up their own fundraising pages online to invite others near and far to join them in supporting your cause.
You’ll also save time tracking donations and dollars raised when you manage everything online. You and your team will have all your fundraising data at your fingertips. You won’t have to stress about figuring out your final numbers after your event, either. Instead, you can just celebrate your success!
Bring your community together
A walk or run is a fun and meaningful way for your supporters to unite to help raise awareness of your cause. Nothing can compare to your community walking side by side in the name of a cause they believe in. Consider a walk-a-thon or marathon for an easy to manage, profitable, and unforgettable event.
